The Fabric Year 2018
Global insights into the processing of fibers and yarns were presented in a follow-up event at Groz-Beckert headquarters in June. The international conference attracted around 150 guests from over 20 countries from Asia, America and Europe.
Eric Schöller, Member of the Executive Board Groz-Beckert, opened the symposium, followed by the presentation given by Dr. Josef Braml, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik e. V., who focused on the global competition between the United States and PR China as well as the implications for Europe. Afterwards, key messages from the textile yearbook "The Fiber Year" were introduced. Subsequently, Andreas Engelhardt and Martin Weiler, Groz-Beckert Market Research, revealed the current status and development of the national fiber and fabric production - always divided into knitted and woven fabric as well as nonwovens. Major Asian industries, Nafta and some European markets were described in detail which experienced quite different changes.
In addition, Gail Strickler, President of Global Trade Brookfield Associate, addressed the Transpacific Partnership from the Asian perspective, the status of negotiations and the expected implications of the agreement for the global textile trade. She was a key player in the negotiations for the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) for textile-related issues and has been active in the private textile sector for many years. Finally, Dr. Davide Bonassi from the Italian Hosiery Association showed an interesting outlook on the Italian fashion market.
